When Was Your Last Routine Hearing Test?

Just as you would have your eyes checked and your teeth cleaned, you should book regular hearing exams to inspect your hearing. We encourage routine exams every 3 to 5 years, when changing occupations or lifestyles, and when hearing loss symptoms are present. If you have hearing loss, annual exams are recommended to monitor any changes. By committing to routine testing, any changes in your hearing are identified as soon as possible, allowing us to work together to take preventive measures. Schedule your next hearing test at our hearing loss clinic in Toronto today.

Talk to our Audiologist Today

Hearing is arguably the most important of our five major senses, vital for learning, alerting us to danger, and connecting us to people and the world around us.  At Toronto Family Hearing, our audiologists offer hearing tests and insights to determine the quality of your hearing and detect any potential issues before recommending treatments such as ear plugs and hearing aids in Toronto.

FAQ

Audiologists are regulated health care professionals who hold Master’s and/or Doctoral degrees and are trained in the prevention, assessment, and treatment of hearing and balance problems. Our audiologist services are dedicated to helping people of all ages overcome hearing loss and enjoy a high quality of life. We also promote, develop, and implement hearing conservation programs and provide consultation to other professionals.

Changes in your hearing often happen slowly over time, so you cannot detect changes without routine hearing tests. Chances are other people will notice changes in your hearing well before you will. It’s why we recommend hearing tests every 3 to 5 years, or when you notice a change in your hearing.

Anyone that needs and wants to protect their ears and/or hearing. Custom ear plugs can protect you against noise-induced hearing loss, which can occur when you’re exposed to loud noises, generally over 85 decibels (dB). This can include concerts, sporting events, industrial workplaces, and even brief, intense exposures, like gunshots. They can also be used by light sleepers (to help block out noise while trying to sleep), swimmers or individuals who need to keep water out of their ears due to surgery, PE tubes or ruptured eardrums. Our audiologists can help you with creating your own unique pair.

OHIP provides partial coverage of hearing aids for every resident of Ontario through the Assistive Devices Program (ADP). ADP provides a grant of $500 per ear, once every 2-5 years, if required. Your audiologist will provide you with the proper forms to complete. Once completed, your audiologist can bill OHIP directly. This way you do not have to pay that portion up front and seek reimbursement later.

A hearing aid and related services from Toronto Family Hearing can cost approximately $1000-$3400 per ear, after OHIP coverage. These prices represent the total out-of-pocket cost for patients, and typically include dispensing/fitting services, batteries, warranties and follow-up appointments. For more information please make an appointment with our Audiologist.

Hearing aids are classified as medical devices so they are exempt from HST. In fact, any portion you pay out of pocket might qualify as a claim when filing your income taxes.

Like any electronic device, there are different levels of technology and capabilities built into hearing aids. The more features and/or options (for example, circuits to help understand speech better in the presence of background noise), the greater the cost of the aids.

Anytime you need or want to hear what is going on around you, you should wear your wearing aids. Hearing aids can help you feel comfortable in situations that challenge your hearing ability.
